Principal's Message

Dear Jefferson Academy Community,

Welcome to the 2016-17 school year! We are so excited to begin working together to produce incredible results for all JA students. With a talented, veteran staff, high-quality academic programming, and engaged students and families, this has the potential to be our most successful school year yet! Each and every day, we move closer to achieving our Big Hairy Audacious Goals (BHAGs):

  • We will be the highest achieving middle school in D.C. for all students.
  • All members of our JA community will love school.

While I am new to the principal role, we are more equipped than ever to provide your student with a high-quality education. We have retained 90% of our team and added several fantastic individuals to the JA family. Every member of our team is committed to being a role model for your students, providing rigorous, differentiated instruction, and building positive, productive relationships that promote learning. These commitments comprise our very simple, very clear theme for this school year:

Lead. Learn. Love.

Every member of our JA community is a leader. Every member of our JA community can learn and grow in their practice. And every member of our JA community must prioritize love in all interactions. This theme applies not only to Jefferson staff members, but also to Jefferson students and families. Academic success is simply not enough in the modern world. We must push our students to be leaders in their lives, leaders in our school, and leaders in our communities. And we must teach them how to lead with love, empathy, and compassion for all.

This is a year of transition at Jefferson, but we cannot afford to be complacent in our approach or stagnant in our results. Your students need more than that. They deserve more than that. We have the capacity to produce amazing results for kids, and we will do it – together.

I am honored and humbled to serve as Jefferson Academy’s principal, and I am beyond excited to start this school year.

Thank you for your commitment to JA, and good luck to you in the upcoming school year. Together, we will lead. Together, we will learn. Together, we will love.
